Fresno EDC

Opportunity Zones

Located south of Stockton and north of Bakersfield in California’s Central Valley, Fresno County is home to the 5th largest city in the world’s 5th largest economy. Fresno County is also home to the state’s richest agricultural land and its most persistent poverty.

In order to attract the level of investment needed to set Fresno County on more prosperous and equitable footing, Fresno County Economic Development Corporation in collaboration with public and private partners are working with a new federal incentive introduced in the Tax Cut and Jobs Act of 2017, known as Opportunity Zones. Through the deferral, reduction and elimination of capital gains, Opportunity Zones have the potential to attract billions of dollars in private capital, making it one of the largest economic development initiatives in U.S. history.
