Industry Clusters Overview

What are industry clusters?  Why are they important?

RJI Industry Clusters are groups of competing, collaborating, and interdependent businesses working in a common industry and concentrated in the Fresno County region. In collaboration with attraction of new businesses as well as business expansion and retention of existing businesses, the Industry Clusters create a synergetic environment to strengthen and grow organizations by tackling common industry issues. Clusters collaborate within themselves, across clusters, and with public partners in order to develop creative solutions to complex challenges. EDC Strategic Initiatives

The driving force behind long-term, strategic solutions that create value and wealth in Fresno County

Strategic Initiatives is reflective of a new overarching philosophy at the EDC that has transformed the way we champion economic development services. It’s a relational paradigm shift – building momentum from within the EDC and spreading like wildfire throughout the region.

Basic, but complex questions are being answered. Who are we in the Central Valley? Who do we want to be? But, most importantly, how do we compete and become a leader in the global marketplace? Each organization is responsible to examine and align their values and goals to propel Fresno County forward. The EDC is leading the charge to shape, and promote a world-class identity.

How has our philosophy changed? Rather than a shotgun approach to economic development, the EDC is laser focused on identified industries. We are committed to analyzing global trends and seizing emerging opportunities. But, it’s more than just identifying trends in and outside of Fresno County. The EDC is making an art of combining partner resources and leveraging the region’s assets to position Fresno County as the leader in renewable energy and water technologies. Although, the EDC has recognized a future in these two emerging industries, we are not forgetting our core industries. In fact, we are strengthening and rallying our foundations to diversify operations, vertically integrate, creatively innovate, and achieve new value by uniting behind a common vision of excellence.

Strategic Initiatives is an area that transcends all departments and organizations, and extends past Fresno County boundary lines. It asks the question, “What can we accomplish together that we cannot accomplish alone?” Through our initiatives, we are able to act upon embedded opportunities, and empower local businesses to continuously reach for the next opportunity.
